d’Anton Tchekhov
mise en scène Emilie Charriot

Comedy or tragedy ? Émilie Charriot brilliantly enters Tcheckhov’s doubts and reveals how the women’s status is suffering from the relationship between marriage and patriarchal power.

Public servant whose wife is dying, Ivanov’s life is slowly burning away when he meets Sacha, a young twenty-year old woman who is going to bring him back to life…
Inspired by « the pieces of an impossible love », six actors play in some vertiginous lighting a burning text written by a thirty-year old Tchekhov. The young director brings the attention on the pain and sorrow of endearing characters consumed by loneliness and trying to find their way in a changing society eluding them. They are the many faces of a lost humanity whose reflection mirrors our ordinary lives.

The European creative hub Campus has build an unprecedented relationship with Pro Helvetia, a fund promoting Swiss art and culture by choosing quality over diversity. With this partnership, young Swiss rising artists can be welcomed in Valenciennes. Thus they can benefit from all the tools implemented within the framework of the ECH. In this way, Émilie Charriot’s last play can be presented in France during the NEXT festival. It also enables her to give an international dimension to her show thanks to sub-heading. Émilie Charriot will also be supported by an artistic think tank in 2018, in partnership with the Théâtre Vidy Lausanne run by Vincent Baudriller. In 2018, The Swiss German artist Denise Wintsch will also be in residency thanks to the support of Pro Helevetia.
